Open As Early As Possible

Algae growth can occur once the water temperature reaches around 60°F, and the chlorine added before closing the pool may have dissipated by the time spring arrives. To avoid your pool turning green, it is recommended to open it promptly, typically around late April in Ottawa.
Removing the pool cover correctly
Attempting to remove the pool cover without first getting rid of the water and debris on top is a common, yet significant, error that people make. In most cases, the pool ends up with some or all of the water and debris that was sitting on the cover. Consequently, what was once a pristine and transparent pool can quickly transform into a murky and algae-infested nightmare. Make sure you are properly removing the water and debris from the top. Pool Water Level

This will facilitate effective cleaning and allow for vacuuming to waste without depleting the water level too quickly.
